Once the center of the world's whaling industry, Nantucket is a remarkable place. Many buildings survive from the 1700s and 1800s, and the beaches are wide and beautiful.
Plan on some shopping: the island is home to some of the region's best artists, craftspeople, antique dealers and galleries. The Whaling Museum tells the island's story.
Ferries leave from Hyannis year-round and seasonally from Harwich Port, about 12 minutes from the house. Throughout the year there are events such as the Daffodil Festival in April, the Wine & Food Festival, and the Christmas Stroll. Arriving by boat, you'll pass Brant Point Light.
